How We Got Our Start

In 1947, Ljubomir Bodjanac received his Master Qualification Certificate as an “Expert Specialist in the Trade for Upholstering” in Yugoslavia. Envisioning a better quality of life for his family, Ljubomir moved his family to the United States in 1961. Ljubomir worked for the Richard Lea Winter furniture store in Los Angeles as the area’s only upholsterer. His values of hard work, attention to detail, excellent customer service, and commitment led to opportunities to work with interior designers on major projects and developments throughout the Beverly Hills and Los Angeles areas.
The Next Generation
Ljubomir opened Star Upholstery in 1971 and grew his business as a recognized custom upholsterer. He trained his son Samuel to learn the upholstery trade starting when Sam was just 10 years old. Sam soon decided he would follow in his father’s footsteps and become a master upholsterer. He married and settled in northern New Jersey, where he worked exclusively with the prestigious interior designers in Manhattan, New York. Eventually, in 1989 he opened Creative Custom Upholstery, which is currently the oldest full-service custom fabric and upholstery shop in the Oakland, NJ area.

Today at Fabric Showcase in Cleveland, OH you will find Sam, his wife Stela and their son Andrew working side by side. Like his father, Andrew began learning the business at a young age. After attending college, he continued in the trade and made the decision to join the family business and is now responsible for Fabric Showcase's day-to-day operations as well as overseeing the Oakland, NJ location.
